The Biggest Celebrity Breakups of 2020

Last year saw several celebrity breakups that hit us hard. Michelle Williams and Phil Elverum ended their marriage. Lady Gaga and Christian Carino called off an engagement. Solange Knowles and Alan Ferguson split after five years. And Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth concluded a short marriage but a very long relationship. There were also some quick, memorable romances that flamed out—among them Demi Lovato and Austin Wilson, Gigi Hadid and Tyler Cameron, and maybe the year’s biggest WTF couple, Kate Beckinsale and Pete Davidson.

Sadly, for anyone who believes in celebrity love, the hits keep coming in 2020. On January 14, a source confirmed that Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler have ended their relationship after almost nine years together. The news comes after fans noticed Butler was absent from Hudgens’s recent posts, including around the holidays. “Vanessa and Austin are officially broken up, and Vanessa has been telling those close to her about their breakup,” the source told Us Weekly.

More celebrity breakups will inevitably happen this year. Below, a list of the ones that were particularly difficult to accept.

Bachelor in Paradise alums Joe Amabile and Kendall Long
The off-again, on-again couple from BIP season five are officially going their separate ways. In fact, they’re no longer even in the same city. The couple released a statement to Bachelor Nation to announce their split.

“Joe has made the decision to move back to Chicago, while Kendall will be remaining in her hometown of Los Angeles,” the statement read. “Our family and friends have always been an extremely important element to who we are as people. We can’t imagine continuing our lives without them closer, especially when thinking of starting a family of our own one day.”

Apparently, there are no hard feelings. “We both respect each other’s decision and still have a great deal of love for each other. We appreciate all the love and support everyone has given us throughout our relationship,” the statement said.
